Highlands opened the day with a 3-2 defeat against the Centerville (Ohio) Elks but rebounded to beat the Port Huron (Michigan) Big Red, 16-0 in five innings. The Bluebirds moved to 1-5 against out-of-state competition. The five losses have come against Ohio teams including three against the tough Greater Catholic League South.
Centerville outhit Highlands, 9-5 and scored two unearned runs off two Bluebird errors. The scoring took place in the first three innings.
Ricky Raisor (3-2) took the loss for Highlands. He struck out seven.
Highlands did not have any extra-base hits while Centerville had two doubles. Conner Kreeger went 2-for-4 and scored twice for the Bluebirds.
In the second game, Highlands exploded for 12 runs in the second inning. The Bluebirds outhit the Big Reds, 11-4. Kreeger went 3-for-3 with his first home run on the season to go with four runs batted in and three runs scored. Trey Bowden went 2-for-4 with his third triple of the season and two runs scored. Brady Gosney also batted in four runs with Austin Mayhew and Mark Walkenhorst scoring three times each. Drew Rom added two RBI and Trent Casebolt scored twice.
Ethan Doty (2-3) picked up the win in the complete game. He struck out six and walked three.
Highlands takes on Simon Kenton on Monday. Game time is 5 p.m.
