Bluebirds win sixth straight

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team completed its successful Spring Break trip to Madisonville with a sixth straight victory.

Highlands (7-3 overall) originally had the host Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons on the schedule. But the Bluebirds ended up beating the Owen County Rebels, 12-6.

Drew Rom (1-1) pitched into the fifth inning to pick up the win for Highlands. He struck out seven, walked three and allowed just two earned runs. Sophomore Hunter Dreves finished the game striking out three.

Highlands outhit Owen County, 12-10. Mark Walkenhorst led the way going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, a double and two runs scored. Kyle Finfrock followed going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Austin Beal and Kyle Rust also had two hits. Beal doubled and scored twice and Rust had an RBI and scored once.

The Bluebirds travel to Cincinnati St. Xavier on Friday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Softball:
Highlands game cancelled:

The Ladybirds (6-6 overall) had their first game of the year cancelled at Christian County. They return to action at Greenwood on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
