The Bluebirds started the day with a 12-0 shutout of the Livingston Central Cardinals. Ricky Raisor (3-1) threw a complete game striking out 11, walking none and allowing just three hits in the five-inning run-ruling.
Highlands recorded 14 hits. Kyle Finfrock led the way going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, a double and run scored. Hunter Henschen and Austin Beal had two hits each with Kyle Rust scoring three runs and Drew Rom scoring twice. Trey Bowden recorded his second triple of the season.
Highlands then took out Webster County, 9-1 outhitting the Trojans, 8-3. Doty (1-1) picked up the complete-game win. He struck out 15.
Finfrock and Bowden led Highlands with two hits each. Finfrock doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a run. Bowden and Mark Walkenhorst also scored twice and Bowden had a run batted in. Tyler Schwalbach, Rom and Beal added doubles and Beal stole two bases.
The Bluebirds conclude the trip with at 11 a.m. against Madisonville-North Hopkins.
Softball:
Bullitt East 4, Highlands 3:
The Ladybirds (6-6) fell on the road to the undefeated Lady Chargers (10-0).
Highlands only managed three hits against Bullitt East sophomore pitcher Taylor Roby. Roby struck out nine and walked three.
Bailey Spencer also pitched a good game for Highlands. She struck out three, walked none and allowed seven Bullitt East hits.
The Ladybirds scored first in the first inning. Roby hit Haley Coffey with a pitch and Spencer bunted her to second. With two out, Brennah Dutcher singled to left to score Coffey.
But Bullitt East came back to score two in the bottom of the first. The Lady Chargers added one in the third and another in the fourth to build a 4-1 lead.
Highlands figured out Roby some in the sixth. Butcher walked and moved to third when Rachel Gabbard doubled. Josie Daley then singled in Dutcher. Chloe Jansen pinch ran for Gabbard and Ella Grimm ran for Daley. Grimm stole second and Jansen scored on the error. But Roby struck out three straight Ladybirds to end the inning.
Highlands travels to Christian County on Wednesday. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
