Highlands drops final two of Doc Morris Invitational

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team (7-8 overall) lost its last two games of the Doc Morris Invitational at Dixie Heights. Highlands has lost five in a row.

Highlands lost 10-6 to Lexington Catholic on Friday in nine innings. The Knights scored four times in the top of the ninth to win it.

Lexington Catholic outhit Highlands, 13-10. Mark Walkenhorst went 3-for-5 with a run scored with Kyle Finfrock and Trey Bowden recording two hits each. Bowden doubled, had a run batted in and scored a run and Finfrock hit one in.

Sophomore Tyler Grigalis went 4-for-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored for the Knights. But Landon Moberly had a huge home run and five RBIs going 4-for-5 with a run scored. Steven Bender went 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and run scored and CJ Bush went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and three runs scored.

Ricky Raisor pitched seven innings for Highlands. He struck out nine and walked three. Kyle Finfrock (0-1) took the loss taking over in the eighth and pitching into the ninth.

Sam Hodges pitched the last two innings for the Knights. He struck out four.

Cincinnati Moeller then beat Highlands, 9-1 on Saturday for the second time this season. The Crusaders scored three unearned runs off three Bluebird errors.

Moeller outhit Highlands just 5-3. Walkenhorst went 2-for-3 to lead the Bluebirds.

Ethan Doty (0-3) took the loss for the Bluebirds on the mound. He struck out four and walked four.

Highlands takes on St. Henry at Highland Park on Monday. Game time is 5 p.m.
