Bluebirds Softball Moves to 3-0 in 36th District Play

The Highlands Bluebirds softball team (8-5 overall) rebounded from its Monday loss with a five-inning 12-2 win over the Dayton Lady Devils (7-7). Highlands is 3-0 in 36th District play with the win.

Convincing 36th Semifinal Wins for Highlands Baseball, Softball

Nothing shows people how serious a top-seeded, heavy favorite is than a convincing shut-out.

Both the Highlands Bluebirds baseball (22-13 overall) and softball (17-10) more than continued to show why they are the teams to beat in their respective 36th District semifinal games Wednesday. The baseball team took care of the Newport Wildcats, 18-0 at Highland Park and the softball team finished off the Bellevue Tigers, 15-0 in three innings after rain Tuesday forced the postponement for day.

Highlands Girls Finish Fourth in 2A State Meet

Instagram Photo. The Highlands girls track and field team placed fourth in the Class 2A state meet over the weekend at the University of Kentucky.
The Class 2A Track and Field State Meet took place at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track Facility on Friday and Saturday after excessive rains postponed the meet for a day.

The Highlands Bluebirds girls placed fourth with 53 points and the Highlands boys finished 12th with 18 points. Boyle County won both the boys and girls titles with 110 and 84 points respectively.

Softball Celebrates Senior Day in Style

The coaching staff made sure the nine Highlands softball seniors had a memorable day Wednesday.

All nine started, played the entire game and had at least one hit in the 17-2 four-inning run-ruling of the Newport Ladycats in 36th District play. Highlands moved to 11-8 overall and 2-0 in district play with the victory.

The Highlands Tennis teams both finished in the top three of the 10th Region runner-up at Easy Walker Park on Monday at Mount Sterling.

Highlands Girls Track and Field Wins Red Dog Meet

The Highlands Bluebirds softball team won its second game against an Ohio opponent Tuesday with a convincing 19-7 win over the host Cincinnati Turpin Spartans in six innings.

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team knew it would face three 35th District teams in two days starting with a doubleheader at Meinken Park in Covington.

The start made the Blue and White faithful nervous.

Runs have not always come as easy as previous seasons for the Highlands Bluebirds baseball team so it is understandable why a 4-0 deficit in the first inning would make fans nervous. But Highlands (22-12 overall) did not flinch. Instead, the Bluebirds dominated the rest of the way en route to an 11-4 victory over the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds (16-14) in the 36th District championship Friday at Highland Park.

The Highlands and Newport Central Catholic baseball and softball games will play for the 36th District championships at 5 p.m. Friday instead of Thursday because of excessive rain.

The Highlands Ladybirds softball team (7-13-1 overall) handled Covington Holmes, 11-1 in six innings for a 9th Region win at Highland Park on Thursday.

The Highlands baseball (16-8 overall) and softball teams (6-13-1) saw their games rained out Tuesday. The softball team was scheduled to play at Dayton and Cincinnati La Salle was scheduled to come to Highland Park for baseball.

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team (10-8 overall) saw a great beginning to 36th District action with a 10-0 blanking of the Newport Wildcats on Monday.

Highlands has won two in a row and five of its last six games. The Bluebirds moved to 6-2 in 9th Region action.

The Highlands Ladybirds softball team dropped their season opener to Campbell County, 9-4. Campbell County improved to 3-0.

Region baseball, softball tournaments start Monday

The 9th Region softball and baseball pairings have been set.

The Highlands Ladybirds softball team (21-10 overall) is 15-0 against the region and opens the tournament Monday at 1 p.m. against Covington Holy Cross at Vets Field in Newport. The winner takes on either Dixie Heights or Boone County on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.

Highlands baseball, softball earn 36th District crowns

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball and Ladybird softball teams finished what they'd done to 36th District opponents all season Thursday.

That is play solid defense. The Bluebirds (20-17 overall) took care of Newport Central Catholic, 5-0 at Bellevue for their fifth straight district championship and the Ladybirds (21-10) edged NewCath, 2-1 to win their third straight district crown. The Bluebirds have outscored district opponents, 44-0 on the season and the Ladybirds outscored district competition 76-1.

The Highlands Ladybirds softball team managed to stay unbeaten in 9th Region play Saturday.
