Thursday Round-up: Highlands softball roles past Dixie Heights

The bats hit full throttle in their latest 9th Region win Thursday.

The Highlands Ladybirds (14-7 overall) banged out 17 hits in the 9-4 win over the Dixie Heights Lady Colonels on the road. Highlands has won five in a row.

Shelby Graybill led Highlands going 3-for-5 with a double and a shot to center for her fourth straight game with a home run and three runs batted in. Kara Fornash went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and a double. Brennah Dutcher went 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch and two RBI. Bailey Spencer, Haley Coffey and Josie Daley all went 2-for-4. Coffey tripled.

Spencer added another big game for Highlands on the mound. She struck out five, walked one and allowed one earned run.

The Ladybirds travel to Covington Holy Cross on Friday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Baseball:
Ryle 6, Newport Central Catholic 3:

The Thoroughbreds (10-15 overall) dropped their second in a row in Union.

Spencer Pangallo led NewCath at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double. Grant Moeves and Josh Schneider added doubles for the Thoroughbreds.

Clint Bartels took the pitching loss for NewCath. He is 2-6 on the season.

NewCath travels to Simon Kenton on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
