Monday Roundup: Highlands softball run-rules Dayton

The Highlands Ladybirds softball team recorded its second straight run-ruling on the road Monday.

Highlands (12-7) took care of 36th District opponent Dayton, 11-0 in five innings. The Ladybirds finished 3-1 in district seed play.

Bailey Spencer pitched another good game for Highlands. She struck out four, walked one and allowed one hit.

Shelby Graybill, Kara Fornash and Brooke Dill went 3-for-4 to lead Highlands. Brennah Dutcher went 2-for-4 as the Ladybirds pounded out 16 hits.

Highlands travels to Campbell County on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Softball:
Newport Central Catholic 9, Covington Holmes 0:

The Thoroughbreds (16-5) no-hit the Lady Bulldogs in a 9th Region contest.

Haley Meyers pitched another good game for NewCath. She struck out 13 and walked five. At the late, she hit a solo home run.

Kristen Schreiber went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three runs batted in for the Thoroughbreds. Michaela Ware went 2-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases.

NewCath travels to St. Henry on Tuesday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Baseball:
Highlands 12, Boone County 2:

The Bluebirds (20-7) snapped their three-game losing streak with a home win in five innings.

Lou Bunning pitched four innings to pick up the win for the Bluebirds before Jacob Noe pitched the fifth. The two combined to strike out five, walk three and allow just four hits.

Highlands outhit Boone County, 13-4. D.J. Mills led the way going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in. Todd Ramey and Jake Whitford went 2-for-2. Ramey homered, batted in three and scored twice with Whitford batting in three and scoring once. Brady Murray also had two hits and Conner Kreeger scored three runs. Joseph Martin added a double.

Highlands travels to Cooper on Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Newport Central Catholic 3, Dixie Heights 0:

The Thoroughbreds (10-13) have won two straight with the home win.

NewCath plays host to Covington Holy Cross on Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
