Bluebirds fall to Bombers

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team has to wait another day to go after its 20th win of the season.

The Cincinnati St. Xavier Bombers of the Greater Catholic League South came to Fort Thomas and denied the Bluebirds (19-5) that feat with a 6-2 win Friday. Highlands finished 2-1 against the rugged GCL South and 4-2 against teams from Ohio.

The Bombers outhit the Bluebirds just 4-3. All but one of the combined seven hits were extra-base hits. Jake Whitford and Joseph Martin homered for Highlands and Luke Hennigan doubled.

Mitch Jones took the pitching loss for Highlands. He threw five innings, struck out six and walked two. Jacob Noe pitched the sixth and seventh innings for the Bluebirds.

Highlands takes on Covington Catholic in a doublheader on Saturday. Game times are Noon and 12:30 p.m.
