Saturday Round-up: Bluebirds run-rule Crusaders

The St. Henry Crusaders proved no match for the Highlands Bluebirds on Saturday.



Highlands (23-7 overall) won the Jim Conner Classic game at Covington Catholic, 11-1 in five innings. The Bluebirds have won four in a row.

The Bluebirds outhit the 11-13 Crusaders, 15-3. Highlands also committed just one error to three for St. Henry.

Mitch Jones (3-3) picked up the win for Highlands. He pitched two innings striking out one, walking two and allowing no hits. Lou Bunning pitched the third and fourth innings and Ricky Raisor finished things off in the fifth. Raisor struck out three in that frame.

Luke Hennigan and Joseph Martin went 3-for-3 to lead Highlands. Martin homered for the seventh time this year, drove in four and scored twice. Hennigan had one RBI and scored once. Todd Ramey also went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Teammate Alex Veneman added a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored.

Highlands plays host to Dayton on Monday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Baseball:
Newport Central Catholic 4, Ludlow 2:

The Thoroughbreds moved to 12-15 with the home 9th Region win.

Grant Moeves (4-1) picked up the pitching win for NewCath. She struck out 10. Moeves also doubled at the plate and Zack Pangallo tripled.

NewCath plays host to Covington Catholic on Monday. Game time is 5 p.m.
