The Highlands Ladybirds softball team handled the Covington Holy Cross Lady Indians, 16-1 to move to 15-7 on the season. Highlands has won six in a row.
The Ladybirds take on Cincinnati Turpin and Johnson Central at the Bird Cage on Saturday. The tripleheader begins at 1 p.m.
Baseball:
Newport Central Catholic 23, Simon Kenton 4:
The Thoroughbreds (11-15) exploded offensively in Independence.
Brandon Gray, Grant Moeves, Spencer Pangallo and Josh Scheider led NewCath with three hits each. Schneider hit a grand slam and had six runs batted in. Moeves had two doubles and two RBI with Spencer Pangallo doubling and bringing home five. Gray added two RBI.
Zack Pangallo went 2-for-5 for NewCath. He doubled, tripled and had three RBI. Bryson Hightchew and Chris Romito added doubles for the Thoroughbreds.
Schneider picked up the pitching win for the Thoroughbreds. He moved to 3-0 on the season.
NewCath plays host to Ludlow on Saturday. Game time is Noon.
