Highlands cruises to fifth straight win

The Highlands Ladybirds continued their excellent play with a convincing 71-45 road victory over the Boone County Lady Rebels on Wednesday in a make-up game.

Highlands (19-9) won its fifth straight game. The Ladybirds trailed 29-28 at halftime but used a 24-9 third quarter to take a nice lead and finished off the Lady Rebels (11-14).

The Ladybirds received another big game from senior McKenzie Leigh. She made 8-of-11 shots and 5-of-7 free throws on her way to 21 points and missed a double-double with nine rebounds to go with four assists and two steals.

Highlands saw three other players reach double digits. Senior Brianna Adler made 3-of-9 three-point tries on her way to 16 points and Haley Coffey made 7-of-10 free throws on her way to 12 points with Zoie Barth scoring 10 to go with four steals and three assists. The fourth senior for Highlands in Izzy Schultz scored seven points off the bench.

Boone County saw two players score double figures. Sydney Foster hit 7-of-15 shots on her way to 16 points and Kaela Saner scored 10 points.

Highlands made 24-of-51 shots for 47 percent including 6-of-21 three-point tries for 29 percent. The Ladybirds also made 17-of-25 shots for 68 percent.

The Lady Rebels made 16-of-54 shots for 30 percent including 4-of-18 three-point tries for 22 percent. They also hit 9-of-14 free throws for 64 percent.

Highlands plays at Simon Kenton on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
