Highlands has won six straight and moved to 2-0 in 36th District play. The Bluebirds are 3-2 in 9th Region play.
The Bluebirds batted 11-for-27 for a .407 clip. Junior Abby Rust went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs batted in and a run scored. Freshman Anna Greenwell went 2-for-2 with a double and run scored.
Junior Kendall Murray added three RBI and scored a run for Highlands. Sophomore Brianna Tharps had a triple, RBI and scored a run. Junior Taylar Lorenzen added two runs as 15 Bluebirds saw action.
"(Head Coach Rob) Coffey is pretty hard on us at times, but I think that it overall betters us as a team," Murray said. "As you can tell, we've started winning a lot this past few weeks. The pressure of spots not locked in yet pushes people to play harder."
Freshman Gracie Schlosser (3-1) threw the first three innings to pick up the win before eighth grader Kennedy Baioni pitched the next two innings. The two struck out a combined seven, allowed no walks and just two hits.
Highlands plays Harrison (Ohio) in the Buckeyes vs. Bluegrass Showcase at Dixie Heights. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
