The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers received a tough draw in the 14th Region All "A" Tournament at Perry County Central.
After taking down three-time champion Leslie County on Wednesday, Jenkins (9-8 overall) could not overcome the Breathitt County Lady Cats (14-4) in the semifinals by a 77-69 count despite 58 points from senior point guard Whitney Creech. Jenkins made the tournament title game two years ago and sough its first crown since 1999.
That total brought Creech's career point total to 4,740. Creech has 873 points on the season and is averaging about 51.4 points per game. She needs just 209 points to surpass Highlands Head Coach Jaime Walz-Richey's state record for both boys and girls of 4,948.
Jenkins travels to Knott County Central for a key 53rd District game Monday. Game time is 6 p.m.
