Jenkins senior 5-foot-9-inch guard Whitney Creech needs just 47 points to break Highlands Head Coach Jaime Walz-Richey's hallowed basketball record.
Creech scored 47 points to help the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers to a crucial 65-52 win at Letcher County Central on Saturday. Creech has 4,902 points for her career and 1,035 on the season for an average of just more than 49 per game.
Walz-Richey scored 4,948 points in her career at Highlands. That Kentucky record for the most points in a career for both boys and girls has stood for almost 20 years.
Jenkins improved to 10-11 overall and 3-3 in 53rd District play. The next game for the Lady Cavaliers is Tuesday at Paintsville at 7:30 p.m.
