Whitney Creech is within 300 points of the career scoring record for both boys and girls in Kentucky high school basketball history.
She scored 48 points including 32 in the second half as the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers (9-7 overall) rallied past the Leslie County Lady Eagles (11-5) on Wednesday by a 70-61 count. That marked the first All "A" 14th Region Tournament win for Jenkins in two years.
Creech has 815 points on the season for an average of 50.9 points per game and 4,682 for her career. She needs 267 points to surpass Highlands Head Coach Jaime Walz-Richey's total of 4,948.
Leslie County won the All "A" 14th Region Tournament three years in a row including an 81-60 victory over Jenkins in the title game two years ago. Jenkins last won the region in 1999.
Jenkins earned the right to face Breathitt County (13-4) on Friday at Perry County Central in the tournament semifinals. Game time is 6 p.m. and the winner plays for the championship Saturday at 8 p.m.
