Thursday Roundup: Bluebirds move to 4-1

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team took down Pittsford (New York) Sutherland, 4-3 to move to 4-1 on the season Thursday.

Highlands scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pick up the win. Jacob Noe picked up the win in relief for the Bluebirds. He relieved Joseph Martin with one out in the top of the sixth.

The Bluebirds outhit Sutherland, 9-6. Brady Murray, Todd Ramey and D.J. Mills had two hits each to lead Highlands. Murray had a double and Ramey scored twice.

Highlands takes on East Lake and Elmwood (Ohio) in doubleheader action to conclude the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach. The games start at 3 and 6 p.m.

Baseball:
Covington Catholic 12, Newport Central Catholic 4:

The Thoroughbreds (2-6) dropped a road 9th Region contest. They've allowed eight or more runs in their six losses and have been shut out three times.

NewCath does not play again until Monday. The Thoroughbreds play host to Bishop Brossart at 5 p.m.

Softball:
Highlands road game cancelled:

The Ladybirds (4-2) saw their game at Franklin County cancelled because of excessive rain.

They play in the Woodford County Spring Break Escape on Friday. They face Middlesboro at 5 p.m. and North Hardin at 9:30 p.m. in Versailles.
