The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team is 5-2 after going 1-1 on the final day of the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.
Highlands started the day with a tough 17-16 game to Morgantown (West Virginia) despite scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. But the Bluebirds came back to beat Bloomdale (Ohio) Elmwood, 9-0.
Ricky Raiser started the second game and Ethan Doty finished it on the mound for the Bluebirds combining for a two-hit shutout. Raisor struck out seven Royal batters and Doty struck out five.
The Bluebirds return to action Monday in the 36th District opener. They travel to nearby Newport for a 5 p.m. contest.

The Ladybirds were to play North Hardin and Middlesboro in the Woodford County Spring Break Escape. The next game for Highlands (2-4) is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday against Loveland (Ohio).
