Madison Central halts Highlands win streak

The Highlands Bluebirds appeared headed to another victory after four innings.

Highlands led 3-0 at that point. But the visiting Madison Central Indians scored five runs in the top of the fifth and held on for a 5-3 victory.

The Bluebirds (14-4) scored twice in the first inning. Jake Whitford hit a two-run home run scoring Conner Kreeger ahead of him. Highlands added another run in the third. Joseph Martin doubled Whitford in.

Mitch Jones pitched into the seventh inning taking the loss for Highlands. He struck out four.

Highlands outhit Madison Central, 7-5. Whitford, Mark Walkenhorst and Luke Hennigan had two hits each for the Bluebirds.

Highlands travels to Cincinnati La Salle on Saturday. Game time is Noon.
