Saturday Highlands Results

Rough Day for Highlands Soccer Teams

PHOTO: G. Michael Graham, Fort Thomas Matters. The Highlands Bluebirds boys soccer team lost on the road Saturday to Louisville Collegiate, 5-2.
The Highlands Bluebirds girls soccer team (7-1-4 overall) dropped the first game of the season to the arch-rival Notre Dame Pandas (8-1-3) in the title game of the Lexington Catholic Lady Knights Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Highlands has not won this tournament since 2006. The Bluebirds last appeared in the title game in 2016.



The Bluebirds had 17 shots with nine on target and the Pandas has 13. Highlands junior goalkeeper Jasmine Rehberger had seven saves.

Highlands saw senior defender Lauren Deckert record one goal and one assist for three points. Sophomore Faith Broering had the other goal with senior Maria Broering recording an assist. Faith Broering has a team-high nine assists.

Highlands takes on Bishop Brossart (6-5) on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Soccer, Boys:
Louisville Collegiate 5, Highlands 2:

The Bluebirds (8-3-2 overall) dropped a non-region game on the road against the Titans (10-2-1).

Collegiate took 19 shots with 15 on goal to 10 shots with five on goal for Highlands. Bluebirds senior goalkeeper Nick Fischer had eight saves.

Highlands senior Caymon Stevie and junior Brayden Gillman had the goals for Highlands. Junior Max Farris had two assists. Farris and Stevie have eight goals each to lead the Bluebirds and Farris also has a team-high seven assists and a team-high 23 points.

Highlands travels to Morscher Field in Silver Grove to take on Newport Central Catholic (9-4-1) on Tuesday. Game time is 6:15 p.m.

Golf, Boys:
Highlands plays in Scott County Invitational:

Highlands took 10th out of 20 teams at Cherry Blossom Golf Course shooting a 340.

Highlands saw junior Justin Gabbard shoot a 73. Gabbard tied for third in the tournament. Fellow junior Luke Muller shot an 81.

Highlands takes on Newport Central Catholic on Senior Nite at Higlands Country Club on Monday. Tee time is 3:30 p.m.

Cross Country:
Highlands Runs in Franklin County Invitational:

The Highlands girls took 11th place in the meet at Kentucky Horse Park with 321 points. Highlands junior Maggie Schroeder led the Bluebirds taking 19th in 20 minutes, 43.5 seconds.

The Highlands boys finished 19th with 497 points. Junior Will Griffith led the Bluebirds finishing 74th in 18:11.31.

Highlands runs in the Cambpell County championships on Tuesday. The meet takes place at AJ Jolly Park in Alexandria.
