Weekend Round-Up

Highlands Baseball, Softball Conclude Regular Season

Despite a rainy end to the week, the Highlands Bluebirds baseball team (20-12 overall) managed to get one last game in for the regular season.

The Bluebirds saw their home game against Conner cancelled on Friday. But they took down the Ryle Raiders for the second time this week by a 7-1 count Saturday at Highland Park.

Junior Drew Rom threw a gem striking out 10 in five innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run before Grady Cramer pitched the last two innings. Cramer struck out three and walked one.

The Bluebirds recorded eight hits. Rom and Ethan Kavanagh led the way both going 2-for-3. Rom doubled and drove in one and Kavanagh scored once. Kyle Rust hit a two-run home run and Kyle Finfrock doubled driving home three.

Highlands earned the top seed in the 36th District Tournament and faces either Dayton or Newport on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Highland Park.

Softball:
Ladybirds go 1-1 in final two of Regular Season:

Highlands (11-16-1) went 1-1 in its last two games of the regular season to finish the regular season 6-6 in 9th Region action.

On Senior Night on Friday. Highlands honored seniors Kara Fornash and Jenna Martin before beating St. Henry, 11-3. Fornash hit an inside-the-park home run in the Highlands victory.

Highlands then lost 13-1 at Boone County on Saturday. That marked the second loss against the Lady Rebels this year.

The Ladybirds earned the top seed in the 36th District Tournament at Newport. They will face either the hosts or Bellevue in the semifinals.
