Highlands Baseball, Softball Teams Run-Rule 9th Opponents

The Highlands Ladybirds softball team (7-13-1 overall) handled Covington Holmes, 11-1 in six innings for a 9th Region win at Highland Park on Thursday.


Gracie Schlosser earned the win striking out seven. Highlands had eight hits overall with Schlosser and Elizabeth Mairose tripling and Maleah Abner doubling.

"We continue to work hard and take one game at a time," said Rob Coffey, Highlands Head Coach. "These kids give us what they got every day. Getting a win does help moral, but they also know they have to keep putting solid games together to get where we want to be."

Highlands plays host to Bellevue on Thursday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Baseball:
Highlands 11, Bellevue 0 (Five innings):

The Bluebirds (17-8 overall) put the final touches on the undisputed top seed in the 36th District Tournament with a five-inning, one-hitter at Bellevue Vets Field. Highlands moved to 10-2 in 9th Region action with its ninth straight win.

"We're blessed to have kids that understand that, while we want to win every pitch of every game, the four district games are the most important games of the season prior to the district tournament," said Jeremy Baioni, Highlands Head Coach. "They have really committed themselves to the process."

Drew Rom started the game before Ethan Doty and Grady Cramer threw one inning each. Spencer Dee then pitched the fourth and fifth innings. They combined to strike out 10 and walk just three.

Kyle Finfrock led the Bluebirds at the plate going 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs batted in and two runs scored. Rom and Carson Fitters added doubles. Grant Summers, Fitters and Ryan Adkins had two hits each.

Highlands faces Cincinnati St. Xavier on Friday. Game time is 5 p.m.
