Ladybirds win sixth straight

The second of four straight meetings against Campbell County opponents also went to the Blue and White as the Highlands Ladybirds basketball team ventured down US Highway 27 and handled the host Bishop Brossart Lady Mustangs, 63-38 on Friday.

Highlands (6-1) owns six straight wins including three against in-county competition while Bishop Brossart dropped to 3-3. Highlands has won its it last five games by an average of 31.8 points.

Veteran senior starters Brianna Adler and Haley Coffey led the way for the Ladybirds. Adler made 4-of-7 three-point shots on her way to 21 points and Coffey made 5-of-6 shots on her way to 17 points. Coffey also had eight rebounds.

Highlands won the rebounding battle 44-26. The Ladybirds outscored the Lady Mustangs, 12-4 in second chance points.

Highlands made 20-of-51 shots for 39 percent including 9-of-23 three-point tries for 39 percent. The Ladybirds also hit 14-of-24 free-throw attempts for 58 percent.

Bishop Brossart made just 14-of-47 shots for 30 percent including 4-of-20 three-point tries for 20 percent. The Lady Mustangs also hit 6-of-10 free throws for 60 percent. Abby King and Sydney Shannon led Bishop Brossart with 14 and 10 points respectively.

Highlands travels to Bellevue on Saturday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
