The Highlands Ladybirds basketball team has had good balance in two games.

That led the Ladybirds (1-1) to their first win of the season, 47-42 on the road over the Scott Lady Eagles on Saturday. Scott dropped to 1-2.

Highlands hit 15-of-45 shots for 33 percent compared to slightly-lower 14-of-44 for just below 32 percent for Scott. But the Ladybirds made 5-of-18 three-point tries for 28 percent compared to 3-of-13 for 23 percent for the Lady Eagles.

Highlands did see fifth-year starting senior guard Brianna Adler lead the way with 16 points. Adler made a three-pointer, recorded three steals and made 9-of-11 free-throw tries and freshman Zoie Barth followed with nine points.

But junior Lauren Epperson came off the bench and made two three-pointers on her way to eight points. Emma Little and Macy Gabbard also made triples for Highlands.

Highlands also won the rebounding battle 34-28. Senior McKenzie Leigh led the Ladybirds with seven and had a blocked shot.

Scott saw two players reach double figures. They were Alexis Stapleton with 15 points and Anna Clephane with 11.

Highlands takes on Dayton on Wednesday at Highlands Middle School. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
