Highlands dominates South Oldham, 56-21

The Highlands Ladybirds held their three opponents to an average of 23 points this week concluding with another convincing 56-21 win over the host South Oldham Lady Dragons on Saturday.

The result is a four-game winning streak for the Ladybirds (4-1). They won their three games over Dayton (57-22), Grant County (64-26) and South Oldham by an average of 36 points.

Highlands had 14 players see action in the win and 10 scored. Senior Brianna Adler made 4-of-7 three-point shots on her way to 17 points and freshman Zoie Barth added 14. Lauren Epperson followed with eight points.

Defense paved the way for the Ladybird win. Highlands recorded 20 steals on 34 South Oldham turnovers compared to 14 turnovers and six Lady Dragon steals. Highlands outscored South Oldham, 22-4 off turnovers. Adler had six steals with Izzy Schultz, Barth and Morgan Coffey recording three each. Barth also had four assists.

Highlands hit 20-of-44 shots for 45 percent including 8-of-16 three-point shots for 50 percent. The Ladybirds also made 8-of-17 free throws for 47 percent.

South Oldham made just 9-of-30 shots for 30 percent including 1-of-6 three-point tries for 17 percent. The Lady Dragons made both free throws.

Highlands travels to Newport in 36th District action Monday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
