Highlands downs Newport, 65-39

The Highlands Ladybirds basketball team handled another 36th District opponent with a 65-39 victory over the host Newport Ladycats on Monday.

Highlands once again saw nine different players score. Zoie Barth led the way with 19 points and Brianna Adler scored 15. Chloe Jansen followed with nine.

The free-throw line showed the big difference in the win for Highlands (5-1 overall, 2-0 district). The Ladybirds made 19-of-30 attempts for 63 percent compared to just 1-of-6 for 17 percent for Newport (1-3, 0-1).

Highlands hit 19-of-56 shots for 34 percent including 8-of-21 for 38 percent from three-point range. Newport made 17-of-51 shots for 33 percent including 4-of-17 from downtown for 24 percent. Kylie Orr led the Ladycats with 15 points.

The Ladybirds travel to Bishop Brossart on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
