The Newport
Central Catholic Thoroughbred girls basketball team (10-6) moved back into the All “A”
9th Region semifinals with a sound 71-32 win over Dayton on Wednesday.
NewCath hit six three-pointers to two for Dayton. Ansley Davenport made three for the Thoroughbreds on her way to 19 points. Freshman Mikah Freppon added 10.

NewCath
takes on Covington Holy Cross on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Villa Madonna.
Basketball, Boys:
Newport Central Catholic 81, Lloyd Memorial 34:
The
Thoroughbreds (11-2) rolled to another sound 9th Region victory on The Hill.
They moved to 7-0 in region play.
Many
players saw action for NewCath. Ben Weyer and Drew McDonald scored 19 and 14
points to lead the Thoroughbreds respectively. Senior Grant Moeves added 10.
NewCath
takes on defending state champion Covington Catholic on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in
a 9th Region showdown. The game takes place at Northern Kentucky University.
