The Newport
Central Catholic Thoroughbreds did not have any bumps in earning another trip
back to the All “A” State Tournament.
The Thoroughbreds
(15-3 overall) handled the St. Henry Crusaders (12-9) by an 85-44 count
Saturday at Covington Holy Cross. NewCath has won three straight All “A” 9th
Region crowns and will be aiming for its third consecutive All “A” State
championship in Frankfort this week.
The
Thoroughbreds saw Zack Pangallo take home most valuable player honors with Drew
McDonald and Grant Moeves making the all-tournament team. McDonald had a
double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds with Pangallo scoring 18. Ben Weyer
followed with 12 and Moves had 10.
NewCath
travels to Highlands on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. contest before beginning the
All “A” State Tournament on Thursday. The Thoroughbreds battle either Edmonson
County or Hancock County on at 11:30 a.m. at the Frankfort Civic Center.
Basketball, Boys:
Boone County 61, Highlands 42:
The
Bluebirds (6-10) could not come up with their third 9th Region win of the
season on the road.
Highlands
had two players score in double figures. They were Mitch Cain with 12 and
Parker Harris with 10.
Highlands
takes on Newport Central Catholic in Fort Thomas on Tuesday. Game time is 7:30
p.m.

The
Thoroughbreds downed their county rivals in a non-region game on The Hill.
NewCath
(12-7 overall) saw Ansley Davenport score 22 points and Loren Zimmerman tally
16.
The
Thoroughbreds take on Covington Holmes on Monday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
