The Newport
Central Catholic Thoroughbreds boys basketball started the King of the
Bluegrass Tournament off on the right foot Thursday.
The
Thoroughbreds (4-0) defeated the Memphis (Tenn.) Mitchell Tigers, 68-47 at
Louisville Fairdale. This marked their first game against a non-Kentucky team
this year.
Tanner
Moeves led the Thoroughbreds with 19 points. Teammates Drew McDonald and Jake
Schulte scored 16 and 12 respectively.
Both teams
took 44 shots. NewCath made 27 for 61 percent and Mitchell hit 16 for 36
percent.
The Tigers
shot better at the free-throw line making 12-of-15 for 80 percent. The
Thoroughbreds hit 11-of-18 for 61 percent.
NewCath
continues tournament action Saturday at 4:30 p.m. back in the West Gym. The
Thoroughbreds will play either Hopkinsville or Fort Meyers (Fla.).
