The Newport
Central Catholic Thoroughbreds girls basketball team scored in the 80s for the
second straight game Wednesday.
The
Thoroughbreds moved to 2-0 with an 87-59 domination of the St. Henry Lady
Crusaders (0-1) on the Hill. They saw five players reach double digits.
Alexus
Mayes led the way with 17 points on two three-pointers and eight rebounds for
NewCath. Nikki Kiernan followed with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Michaela
Ware followed the two posts with 12 points. Teammates Ansley Davenport and
Stephanie Lewis recorded 11 each. Davenport made three three-pointers.
NewCath led
49-29 at halftime. The Thoroughbreds made 22-of-32 free-throw attempts for 69
percent. They also hit 22 two-pointers and seven three-pointers.
The
Thoroughbreds travel to Newport for their second 36th District contest of the
year Tuesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
