The Newport
Central Catholic Thoroughbreds girls basketball team moved to 4-0 overall
another 9th Region win, 57-43 at the Dixie Heights Lady Colonels on Wednesday.
NewCath
moved to 3-0 on the road with the win. Dixie Heights fell to 1-3 with the loss.
Posts Nikki
Kiernan and Alexus Mayes once again led NewCath with 14 and 13 points respectively
and Loren Zimmerman followed with nine. Mayes nabbed six rebounds with Michaela
Ware recording six steals to go with six points.
Zimmerman
scored eight of her points in the third quarter to help NewCath pull away. The
Thoroughbreds led just 22-14 at halftime.
NewCath
made five three-pointers to two for Dixie Heights. Mayes made two with Kiernan,
Ansley Davenport and MiKayla Seibert hitting one each.
The
Thoroughbreds still hope to improve at the free-throw line. They made 10-of-20
for 50 percent compared to 9-of-14 for 64 percent for the Lady Colonels.
Junior Liza
Tibbs led Dixie Heights with 14 points.
NewCath
plays host to Boone County (1-1) on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
