The
Highlands Bluebirds boys basketball team earned its first victory of the year
Monday.
Highlands
(1-6) knocked off the Chesnee (S.C.) Eagles, 54-38 at the Cumberland Falls
Invitational at Corbin. This marked the second opponent of the tournament for
Highlands from the Palmetto State.
Highlands
faced a four-star recruit in Chesnee’s Dion Holmes. He came in averaging 36
points a game, but Luke Brockett and Justin Weyer helped limit him to 18
points.
Bluebird
senior Drew Houliston had a breakout game of 19 points. Teammate Parker Harris
made the all-tournament team with eight points and 10 rebounds.
The
Bluebirds do not play again until Saturday. They travel to Park Hills to take
on the rival Covington Catholic Colonels (8-0) at 7:30 p.m.
Newport Central Catholic 56, Knott County Central 53:
The
Thoroughbreds (8-3) rallied past the Patriots (9-2) to take third in the
Republic Bank Classic at Lexington Catholic on Monday.
Drew
McDonald led NewCath with 14 points and six rebounds. Grant Moeves and Jake
Schulte followed with 11 points and Zach Pangallo had 10. McDonald and Ben
Weyer made the all-tournament team for the Thoroughbreds.
NewCath
travels to Covington Holy Cross (1-8) on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
