The Newport
Central Catholic Thoroughbred basketball teams overwhelmed host 36th District
opponents on Tuesday.
Boys:
NewCath 90, Dayton 30:
The
Thoroughbreds (2-0) took down the Greendevils (1-1) in the 36th District opener
for both squads.
NewCath saw
four players reach double figures. They were Tanner Moeves with 15, Ben Weyer
with 12, Brian Anderson with 11, and Drew McDonald with 10.
The
Thoroughbreds do not play again until heading to Florence on Tuesday to take on
Boone County (4-0) in a key 9th Region showdown. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Girls:
NewCath 68, Newport 44:
The
Thoroughbreds (3-0) moved to 2-0 in district action with another convincing
win. They are averaging about 79 points a game so far.
Ansley
Davenport made three three-pointers on her way to 11 points to tie teammate
Nikki Kiernan for the game-high. Michaela Ware added 10 for NewCath.
The
Thoroughbreds made four three-pointers. Loren Zimmerman made the other.
NewCath
returns to action tonight with another 9th Region contest. The Thoroughbreds
travel to Dixie Heights (1-2) for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
