No Luck in Paris for Highlands Softball
But that did not happen in either game in the John Sosby Memorial Classic. Highlands lost 13-4 to the Franklin County Lady Flyers (11-12) in five innings then 11-3 in the second game of the season against the host Bourbon County Lady Colonels (17-6). The Bluebirds have lost four in a row.
The Lady Flyers outhit the Bluebirds, 12-5. Senior Ella Grimm tripled home a run and sophomore Abby Rust had two runs batted in one one hit for Highlands.
Seventh grader Kennedy Baioni started the game and pitched into the second inning before taking a liner off the hand and eighth grader Gracie Schlosser took over. Schlosser struck out one.
Sophomore Madison Parido had a triple and home run for five RBI to lead Franklin County. Senior Kindall Talley added three hits.
Freshman Peyton Sutton pitched the first three innings for Franklin County striking out four. Freshman Sophie Charles threw the fourth and fifth. Charles struck out two.
Schlosser threw a complete game against Bourbon County. She allowed eight hits, walked eight and struck out four. The Lady Colonels scored 11 earned runs in the win.
Highlands managed six hits off Bourbon County pitcher Katie Fister. Fister, a freshman, struck out one, walked one and allowed just two earned runs. Grimm and junior Morgan Coffey batted in one run on one hit each.
Fister also led Bourbon County at the plate with two hits and five RBI including a grand slam. Eight grader Jules Johnson added three RBI on three hits including a home run and triple and sophomore Katy Ritchie added two hits.
Highlands travels to Simon Kenton on Monday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
