A nine-run first inning for the Greenup County Muskateers spelled the end of the eight-game winning streak for the Highlands Bluebirds baseball team (8-4 overall).

The Musketeers (14-2) made the lead stand up for a 9-2 rain-shortened win in 4.5 innings. Greenup County has won seven straight. The Musketeers rallied past Beechwood, 9-6 Friday.

Highlands last met Greenup County in the state semi-finals on June 5, 2015. The Bluebirds won 5-2 on their way to a state runner-up finish.

Junior Dylan Ball had three runs batted in for the Musketeers in the nine-run inning. Senior Gage Hughes added two. Highlands came back to score once in the third after loading the bases with none out and another in the fifth on consecutive doubles.

Highlands returns to 9th Region action Monday. The Bluebirds play at Covington Holmes at 5 p.m.
