Highlands lost 13-3 to West Jefferson (Ohio) to start the day committing five errors. Eighth-grade pitcher Gracie Schlosser took the pitching loss for the Bluebirds. She went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
But the Bluebirds came back to beat Boone County, 10-9 scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. Seventh-grade pitcher Kennedy Baioni picked up her first career varsity win for Highlands.
Junior Rachel Gabbard led Highlands going 3-for-4 with a double. Senior Alyssa Dixon and sophomore Abby Rust both went 2-for-4 with a double.
Highlands plays twice at home Monday. The Bluebirds face Louisville Butler at noon and Notre Dame at 3 p.m.

Highlands goes 2-2 over weekend:
The Bluebirds (2-3 overall) played four games over the weekend in the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach (South Carolina). Highlands lost twice Saturday to Halifax County (Virginia), 2-0 and Morris Knolls out of Rockaway (New Jersey), 4-0.
But Highlands came back to beat both Kentucky opponents Sunday. The Bluebirds beat Madisonville-North Hopkins, 11-4 and Russell County, 7-1.
Highlands concludes the experience at 11 a.m. Monday against Thornton Fractional South from Lansing (Illinois). Game time is 11 a.m.
