Head Coach Rob Coffey said the Blue and White left a lot of runners on base.
But the sixth-year Highlands Bluebirds softball head coach and staff like the number of chances they received in their 8-2 win over the visiting Conner Lady Cougars (0-3) on Wednesday. Highlands (4-2) moved to 3-0 against 9th Region competition with its third straight win.
"The whole season's a journey," Coffey said. "It's not a sprint. The staff feels we're getting better and better every time out. We're getting more experience. Each of our kids are getting confidence. We have 21 kids and they're all starting to fall into their roles and understand what we expect of them."
Eighth Grader Addie Mack led Highlands with three hits including a double. Senior Brooke Dill added two more.
"You're up there to swing for a purpose, but even if you get out at first, just know if there is a girl on (second), you missed her," said Morgan Coffey, Highlands junior. "Don't hang your head because you helped your teammate out."
Eighth Grader Gracie Schlosser pitched a complete game picking up the win for the Bluebirds. Schlosser struck out eight and walked six.
Highlands also took advantage of three Conner errors. The Bluebirds committed just one.
The Bluebirds play at Cooper on Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
