Bluebirds double up Bulldogs, 4-2

Make that seven in a row and double-digits in the win column.

The Highlands Bluebirds soccer team doubled up the improved 7-2-2 Covington Holmes Bulldogs, 4-2 at Tower Park on Thursday to move to 10-1-2 on the season and move to 6-0-1 in 9th Region action. Highlands last recorded double-digit victories in 2013 going 17-8-1 with a 9th Region title.

Highlands has scored 46 goals this year and allowed just 11. Senior Solomon Farris led the Bluebirds with two goals with Alan Ford and Tommy Steppe scoring one each. Farris has a team-high 13 goals on the season. Steppe has two this year and that marked Ford's first goal of the year.

The Bluebirds recorded three assists. Senior Ethan Mills had two and Tommy Browe had the other for his first this year. Mills has five assists this season.

Highlands plays host to Newport Central Catholic (8-4) on Thursday. Game time is 8 p.m.

The Ladybirds fell to 10-10 on the season with the home loss. Highlands takes on Walton-Verona on Monday at 7 p.m.
