The defense has done well for all but one game this season.

But when it mixes with an offensive explosion, it leads to a blowout. The Highlands Bluebirds soccer team (8-1-2 overall) has scored seven or more goals in a game four times this year following an 8-0 9th Region victory over the Dixie Heights Colonels (1-3-1) on Thursday.

Highlands improved to 4-0-1 in region play with the win. The Bluebirds have won five straight and outscored the opposition, 40-8 on the season.

The Bluebirds outshot the Colonels, 23-2. Highlands goalkeepers Simon Frink and Paul Tully combined for the ninth Bluebird shut-out of the season. Frink recorded two saves and Tully had none.

Junior midfielder Nick Gish led the Bluebirds with three goals and two assists for a total of eight points. Senior midfielder Colton Dolezal added two goals and two assists for a total of six points and senior striker Solomon Farris scored twice to bring his team-leading total to 11 goals on the season. Gish and Dolezal have a team-high seven assists each.

Senior Ethan Mills scored the other Highlands goal and added an assist for three points. Senior forward Collin Ginter and junior midfielder Joe Broering also had assists for the Bluebirds.
