Thursday Briefs: Highlands soccer, volleyball collect wins

The Highlands Ladybirds volleyball team evened its record at 5-5 with a 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-21) win at Simon Kenton.

Senior setter Emma Little led Highlands with 39 assists, five kills and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Lauren Epperson added 14 kills and 10 digs with seniors Hannah Harris and Emma Delagrange tallying 13 digs each.

Highlands plays in the September Slam at Scott on Friday and Saturday. The Ladybirds take on Oldham County at 7 p.m. Friday.

Soccer, Boys:
Highlands 9, Conner 0:

The Bluebirds (5-1-2 overall) recorded their second win of the week at Tower Park in 9th Region action. Highlands is 3-0-1 in region action. It marked the sixth shutout of the season for the Bluebirds.

Senior Solomon Farris had a hat trick of three goals to lead the Bluebirds. Farris owns five goals on the season. Senior Ethan Mills added two goals with Tommy Steppe, Aaron Williams, Simon Frink and Joe Broering scoring one each. Nick Gish had four assists for Highlands with Mills assisting two goals for a total of six points. Blake Shuley and Brandon Zachary had one each.

Highlands travels to Louisville St. Francis on Saturday. Game time is 10:30 a.m.

Football, Freshman:
Cooper 16, Highlands 14:

Highlands dropped to 1-2 on the season with a road loss. The Bluebirds take on Campbell County at home on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
