Tuesday Briefs: Highlands baseball, softball record wins

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team (13-11) beat an Ohio opponent for the first time in six tries this season with an 11-4 win over the Cincinnati Elder Panthers on Tuesday at Highland Park.

Highlands outhit Elder, 10-8. Conner Kreeger, Austin Mayhew and Brady Gosney had two hits and two runs batted in each. Kreeger and Gosney added doubles. Kreeger, Trey Bowden and Mayhew scored twice for the Bluebirds.

Drew Rom (1-2) pitched six innings to pick up the win for Highlands. He struck out seven and walked none.

Highlands takes on Beechwood in a 9th Region contest at University of Cincinnati Medical Center Stadium in Florence on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.

Softball:
Highlands 3, St. Henry 1:

The Ladybirds (16-6) won their 10th straight with the 9th Region road victory. They also improved to 10-0 in region play.

Shelby Graybill led the charge for Highlands. She hit her sixth home run of the season in the second to help the Ladybirds jump out to a 3-0 advantage.

Highlands travels to the Round Robin Tournament at East Jessamine on Friday. The Ladybirds take on Scott County at 5:30 p.m.
