Friday Briefs: Highlands tennis teams win 10th Region team titles

Contributed Photo. The Highlands boys and girls tennis team captured the 10th Region team titles Wednesday at Harrison County High.

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team (16-15 overall) took down the Covington Catholic Colonels, 4-1 Friday in Park Hills.

Sam Hennigan, Mark Walkenhorst and Bryce Ziegler led Highlands with two hits each. Ziegler and Conner Kreeger recorded doubles as Highlands outhit CovCath, 9-5. Highlands improved to 9-4 in 9th Region play with the win.

Drew Rom (2-3) picked up the win. He pitched a complete game striking out 10 and walking just three.

Highlands takes on Covington Holy Cross at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the second game of the Conner Classic.

Highlands teams capture 10th Region crowns:

The Highlands boys and girls tennis teams captured the team regional championships Wednesday at Harrison County.

The Ladybirds beat Campbell County, Harrison County, Bourbon County then Mason County in the finals by 3-0 scores. It marked the 12th straight region championship and moved their season record to 22-0.

The Bluebirds beat Montgomery County in the quarterfinals, 3-0 before taking out Campbell County, 3-1 in the semifinals and Bourbon County, 3-0 in the title game. They are 17-2 overall on the season.
