Ryle downs Highlands in region championship rematch

In a rematch of last year's 9th Region title game, the visitors fell 6-1.

Highlands (14-15 overall) dropped a game below .500 with the loss to the Ryle Raiders. Highlands dropped to 7-4 in region action.

The Raiders outhit the Bluebirds, 11-3. Senior Matt Roe led the way for Ryle going 3-for-4 with a run batted in and two runs scored. The bottom of the Ryle line-up in Logan Turner, Zak Smith and Trent Mills went a combined 6-for-7 and Smith scored two runs. Mills and Jake Ziegelmeyer added doubles.

Trey Bowden, Ethan Doty and Conner Kreeger had the Highlands hits. Bowden doubled for the Bluebirds.

Grady Cramer (0-1) started for Highlands. He struck out one in five innings.

Highlands takes on Bellevue on Thursday at Highland Park. Game time is 5 p.m.
