Highlands baseball, softball teams score double-digit wins

Head Coach Rob Coffey had faith the bats for the Blue and White would come alive soon.

They did just that Wednesday to the tune of 13 hits in a 10-4 victory over Loveland (Ohio) at Winkler Field. Highlands (3-4 overall) has won two in a row.

Brooke Dill went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in a run scored to lead the way for Highlands and Brennah Dutcher went 3-for-4. Shelby Graybill and Rachel Gabbard also had two hits. Graybill blasted a home run. Gabbard and Zoie Barth scored two runs each.

Bailey Spencer picked up the win for Highlands. Spencer struck out five in the complete game while allowing 11 hits, four runs and a walk.

The Ladybirds play in the Uncle Pete Noll Classic at River City Park on Friday. They take on Newport Central Catholic at 7 p.m. and Knoch (Pennsylvania) at 8:30 p.m.

The Bluebirds (2-3 overall) snapped a three-game losing streak with a six-inning 9th Region victory at Highlands Park on Wednesday.

Spencer Dee pitched the first four innings to pick up the win for Highlands. He struck out four.

The Bluebirds outhit the Indians, 12-5. Trent Casebolt led the way going 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Mark Walkenhorst went 3-for-3 with a run batted in and three runs scored and Ethan Doty went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored and Ethan Doty added a double.

Highlands takes on Cincinnati Elder back at Highland Park on Thursday. Game time is 5 p.m.
