Tuesday Briefs: Highlands softball wins, baseball games cancelled

Weyer helps Thoroughbreds to state tournament win

Ben Weyer helped the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds basketball team to their first state tournament win since 1975 with a convincing 48-33 win over 7th Region champion Louisville Trinity on Wednesday.

Creech helps Jenkins to 14th Region title game

Whitney Creech and the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers are playing for a 14th Region title for the first time since 1997 after defeating the host Powell County Lady Pirates, 67-58 on Friday in the region semifinals.
