Saturday Round-up: Bluebirds handle Simon Kenton to finish regular season

The Highlands Bluebirds soccer team (9-9-5) needed a win entering the postseason.

They ventured to Simon Kenton on Saturday and handled the Pioneers, 6-2 to do just that. Ethan Mills had a hat trick of three goals to lead the Bluebirds. Mills owns a team-high 14 goals on the season.

Brady Gesenhues, Ben Schweitzer and Colton Wagoner scored the other goals for Highlands. Nick Gish had two assists for the Bluebirds with Schweitzer, Mark Baron, Tommy Steppe and Ben Workman making one each. Gish has a team-high five assists on the season.

The Bluebirds face the Newport Central Catholic Throughbreds for the 36th District championship Tuesday at Tower Park. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Bluebirds (5-2) snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory.

Highlands takes on Covington Catholic on Oct. 19 in Fort Thomas. Game time is 6 p.m.
