Tuesday Round-up: Bluebird soccer wins second in a row

The Highlands Bluebirds soccer team has its first winning streak of the season.

The Bluebirds (3-5-1) shut out the Covington Holy Cross Indians, 3-0 for their second straight win. All three wins have been shutout victories.

Highlands outshot Holy Cross, 14-2. Junior Paul Tully recorded two saves for the Bluebirds.

Brady Gesenhues, Ethan Mills and Mark Baron scored goals for Highlands. Ben Seiter, Noah Sellers and Colton Wagoner recorded the assists. Gesenhues leads the Bluebirds with seven goals and Sellers has a team-high three assists on the season.

Highlands faces Newport Central Catholic at 5:30 p.m. at Morscher Field.

Volleyball:
St. Henry 3, Highlands 0:

The Lady Crusaders handled the Ladybirds (5-8) in three games, 25-21, 25-16, 25-18.

Maria Hockney led Highlands with eight kills with Lauren Epperson garnering 21 digs and 18 assists. Libero AJ Guth recorded 18 digs.

Highlands plays at Dayton on Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m.

Softball:
Spencer commits to Cincinnati Christian:

Highlands senior Bailey Spencer has verbally committed to Cincinnati Christian University of the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics.

Spencer has been the main Highlands starting pitcher for the last three seasons. Highlands has advanced to at least the region semifinals in those three years. The Ladybirds won the 9th Region title in 2014.
