The
Highlands Bluebirds soccer team recorded a huge 2-0 victory over the Covington
Catholic Colonels on Tuesday.
The Bluebirds (2-6-4) recorded their fourth straight shutout in the process. They scored just their seventh and eighth goals on the season and have allowed just 20. Juniors Noah Sellers and Ben Schweitzer scored the goals for Highlands. Senior goalkeeper Nick Breslin had another outstanding game with nine saves.

does not play again until Saturday. Covington Holmes comes to Fort Thomas for a
6 p.m. contest.
Soccer, Boys:
Newport Central Catholic 9, Covington Holmes 1:
The
Thoroughbreds (6-4-3) snapped their six-game winless streak with a convincing
victory on the road.
Jacob
Hensley led the way for NewCath with a hat trick of three goals. Jeremy
Bricking, Jack Kremer, Seth Freppon, Patrick Louis, Andrew Liles and Noah Connolly
scored the other goals for NewCath.
NewCath
takes on Bishop Brossart in the All “A” sectional round at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The Mustangs beat the Throughbreds, 2-1 in that round on their way to the All “A”
state championship last year.
Volleyball:
Beechwood 3, Highlands 1:
The
Ladybirds (6-9) dropped the road contest.
Jessica
Ginter again led Highlands with 14 kills. Teammate Kaitlin Hall had 11 kills,
10 digs and 24 assists.
Highlands
plays again on Sept. 23 against Lloyd Memorial. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Newport Central Catholic 2, Lloyd Memorial 0:
The
Thoroughbreds (7-8) handled the hosts, 2-0 (25-8, 25-6).
Freshman
setter Mikah Freppon led the way with 21 assists. Rachel McDonald followed with
seven kills and five aces. Keyaira Lankheit added five kills and Amanda Ruwe
had 11 digs.
NewCath
takes on St. Henry on Thursday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Louisville Assumption 4, Highlands 0:
The
Ladybirds (3-7) dropped the opening contest of the Lexington Catholic Cup.
Highlands
takes on Louisville DuPont Manual on Wednesday back at LexCath. Game time is 8
p.m.
