The Highlands
Ladybirds soccer team had not played in 10 days.
But it did not matter Thursday. Highlands (2-3) snapped a three-game losing streak with a convincing 5-0 win at Simon Kenton.

plays host to South Oldham on Saturday. Game time is 7 p.m.
Volleyball:
Bishop Brossart 3, Highlands 2:
The
Ladybirds (3-4) saw their three-game winning streak snapped in Alexandria.
Highlands
dropped the first two sets by consecutive 25-22 scores before winning the next
two 25-20, 25-15. But the Lady Mustangs claimed the fifth one, 15-9.
The
Ladybirds take on Oldham County in the September Slam at Scott on Saturday. Game
time is 10 a.m.
Newport Central Catholic 3, Newport 2:
The
Thoroughbreds (3-4) won their second in a row and improved to 2-0 in 36th
District play with a convincing 25-6, 25-10, 25-8 win on the road.
Keyaira
Lankheit led NewCath with five kills and Olivia Owens had seven aces. Freshman
setter Mikah Freppon had 19 assists, five kills and eight aces for the
Thoroughbreds.
NewCath
travels to Scott on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Soccer, Boys:
Newport Central Catholic 1, Ryle 1:
The
Thoroughbreds (5-1-3) tied a Boone County opponent for the second straight game
in another defensive struggle.
Andrew
Liles recorded NewCath’s lone goal. Senior Thoroughbred goalkeeper Paul Grosser
had three saves.
NewCath
takes on Cooper on Saturday at home. Game time is 3 p.m.
Cooper 1, Highlands 0:
The
injury-riddled Bluebirds (0-5-2) remained winless in the road 9th Region loss.
Highlands
has been shut out four times this year. Nick Breslin had another big game for
Highlands with six saves at goalkeeper.
The
Bluebirds hit the road Saturday for a 10 a.m. contest at Montgomery County.
