Thursday NC Briefs

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds boys soccer team (7-5-3) bounced back quickly from the Wednesday loss.

NewCath downed the Woodford County Yellow Jackets, 2-1 in the Tribe Shootout at Madison Central on Thursday. Patrick Louis and Brian Anderson scored the Thoroughbred goals. Anderson and Seth Freppon had assists.

Paul Grosser turned in another solid game at goal for NewCath. He had five saves.

NewCath plays twice Saturday back at Madison Central. The Thoroughbreds take on Lexington Tates Creek at Noon and the host Indians at 8 p.m.

Volleyball:
St. Henry 3, Newport Central Catholic 0:

The Lady Crusaders handled the Thoroughbreds (7-9), 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-18) on the Hill.

NewCath plays again Monday. The Thoroughbreds battle Bishop Brossart at 7:30 p.m.
