The Newport
Central Catholic Thoroughbreds softball team manhandled another 9th Region
opponent Wednesday.
NewCath
(14-5) handled the host Beechwood Lady Tigers, 9-0. Pitch Haley Meyers came
within a strike of throwing her fifth no-hitter of the season. She struck out
14, walked two and allowed just one hit.
The
Thoroughbreds recorded 12 hits. Kristen Schreiber, Loren Zimmerman had RBI
doubles and Molly Mertle had a two-run single. Casey Kohls and Morgan Martini added
doubles for NewCath.

Covington Holy Cross 6, Newport Central Catholic 2:
The
Thoroughbreds dropped their 10th straight with the road loss Wednesday.
